absnz annual conferences & EVENTS

Each year we host conferences for educators of boys' schools. These events are the meeting place for many of the leading researchers and practitioners in the field of educating young men. Attendees have described our events as "a journey into the future of education in the company of those creating it." It's a combination of best practices, top research and groundbreaking content in an immersive and focused environment.

IBSC Sports Conference postponed

Westlake Boys High School and The Scots College, Sydney (in conjunction with the IBSC), have postponed the planned  ‘Sport in Boys’ Schools’ Conference due to Covid-19.
Picture
The aim of the conference is to afford some of the leading educators in boys’ education the opportunity to connect, share good practice, reflect on current trends/research and enjoy what is a significant and special feature of all boys’ schools– the healthy competition, pride and enjoyment that comes from being involved in school sport.
This exclusive conference aims to blend practical sessions, hands-on workshops, leading keynote speakers and evidence based research to further improve the excellent work that is a key part of a boy’s sporting and wider education.
The conference is a must for Directors of Sport, Coaches, Strength and Conditioning Specialists, Teachers and Sports Administrators.
Sessions will be held at the NZ Olympic and High Performance facility, known as the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health, and at Westlake Boys High School. Both venues are based on the North Shore of Auckland, NZ.
We look forward to meeting you, sharing your leadership and insights, as well as enjoying the opportunity to connect with other like-minded educators from boys’ schools from across Australasia

pROPOSED CONFERENCE; BUILDING A 'HIGH PERFORMANCE CULTURE' IN A NZ BOYS' SCHOOL

The ABSNZ Research Committee met early last year and began planning for a two-day conference which will be aimed at Associate and Deputy Principals. The theme of the conference will be building a “high-performance culture” in a NZ boys’ school.
Picture
We would like to be able to discuss some examples of highly effective practice in the 6 areas of the “high-performance culture” identified in the 2019 CIRCLE Education report:
  • The whole work of boys’ schools: developing civic, performance, and moral competencies
  • The progress of schools in communicating a compelling narrative of yesterday, today and tomorrow
  • The learning journey of schools: building the expertise of staff in pursuit of high standards
  • The culture of schools: delivering an education for C21st character and competencies
  • The preferred future of schools: fit-for-purpose strategic thinking and implementation
  • The knowledge engines of schools: focusing on student outcomes and competencies
We would like to hear from schools who feel they have strengths in any of these areas, in order that we can help to share experience and advice at the conference. If your school has expertise in any of these areas, please email Mr John Etty: j.etty@ags.school.nz
